The word “şato” (chateau) is the name given to the grand and secure buildings that a feudal lord lives during the Middle Ages in Europe and it is borrowed from French language. In the exhibition concept chateau represents the memory. While it metaphorically represents the feudal lordship of the human mind it also represents an elegant and fragile structure as opposed to strong images such as walls, ditches and towers since it is made of glass. In this sense, as long as it is treated with care, it can be preserved. The exhibition focuses on “memory” by grounding it on gothic art movement –literature, architecture, and visual arts- and brings the artwork in the exhibition together under 6 different titles, which is similar to memory’s structure and way of working. On this platform created for “Crystal Chateau” exhibition, the term “memory” is gathered together by artists from different generations and disciplines with their product both in Evliyagil Museum Collection and out of the collection.
