How do we cope with concepts and feelings that overcome us? How do we establish our personality against the overarching effect of the universe, love, power, society, family? What do we do when the language we use is not sufficient to express experiences such as despair, terror, pleasure, eternity that we feel against ‘the Sublime’? What happens when the one that takes the breath away and the one that cuts it off mingle together?

In Tunaboylu’s practice, there are exercises on cohabitation of objects she encounters and invisible portraits whose traces are witnessed. Tunaboylu re-examines her subjects shifting between different mediums and through subtle transitions from painting to sculpture with depiction of photographs and images of sculptures which constitute one of the main research methods she employs. Sevil Tunaboylu received her BA in Painting from Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in 2005. As one of the founders, she co-managed the non-profit initiative Mtaär Open Art Space, between 2008-2010. Since 2007, working as a visual arts instructor and currently lives and works in Istanbul.
